Reflections

This section of our website is for teachers to exchange ideas, and support each other. We ask our supported teachers to complete a reflection diary every two weeks, which discusses their progress, problems, ideas and innovations.

We invite others to make constructive comments and suggestions on the reflections that you will find here.

Since our supported teachers are Thai, most of the reflections are in Thai. As teacher's confidence in English grows, some may start writing their reflections in English, in which case, we ask that any criticisms of their English writing skills be constructive and courteous.

New Semester - more schools

One of my favourite things is bringing new schools into our project. Later this semester, we will start training with four new schools on Koh Kut (also called Koh Koot or Koh Kood on various maps and signs).

Our major sponsor, Six Senses Spas and Resorts has sponsored a new project on the island, and we will begin with a couple of workshops in December, followed by regular on-the-job training in January.

We have appointed a trainer for the Koh Kut project, Khru Ann ( Kallaya Rungruengsri ), who will introduce herself on the Reflections forum soon.

Meanwhile, last Friday, we went out to Ban Sri Raman School to get Khru Pond set up to use Team Learning. Here is a photo of Khru Pond and some of her students. (She is standing at the back with glasses.)

We helped her set up teams for P4 and P5, prepared materials for the first two phonics units, team formation sheets, took "mugshot" photos of her students for the Team Learning sheets, and briefly took her through some of the basic techniques she will be using.

Her on-the-job training starts in two weeks, and I'm really looking forward to working with her students for the first time. It's so satisfying to see the transformation in students as they realise that education can be fun!
